Canada Express Entry: You’re Fast-Track Pathway to Permanent Residency

Express Entry is Canada’s fast, transparent online system for skilled immigration to permanent residence.

Canada has one of the fastest immigration systems in the world. Designed to attract immigrants who can provide skills that the economy and the community can use. Through the Express Entry immigration program, candidates are able to gain permanent residency without employer sponsorship and job offers. For many applicants, Express Entry immigration has been the most effective route to permanent residency in Canada.

At Phoenix Immigration Consulting Services, we support and facilitate the entire express entry process. After you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency, we help you prepare it while positioning your case to ensure success towards receiving an express entry permanent residency to Canada.

What Is Express Entry?

Express Entry is an online selection system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It controls the immigration of the federal Skilled Worker, the Skilled Trades, and the Canadian Experience Class immigration streams. Qualified candidates set up an online profile to enter the Express Entry pool. Every individual gets a CRS score considering age, education, work experience, language proficiency, adaptability, and more. After this, a CRS score is generated. The IRCC makes draws and the highest points are invited to become permanent residents.

The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) are an additional benefit. If a contender gets a provincial nomination when using an Express Entry-aligned stream, they instantly get an extra 600 CRS points which guarantees they will get an invite in the next draw.

Who Can Apply Under Express Entry?

For Express Entry applications, candidates need to meet the criteria for at least one of the three federal programs. This usually means having a minimum of 12 months of paid, skilled work experience in the last ten years, a recognized credential in English or French through an appropriate language exam, and a tertiary qualification. Applicants outside Canada will need to do an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) to determine the Canadian equivalency of their education.

Unless applicants have work or study permissions in Canada that exempt them from needing to show funds, they must demonstrate sufficient settlement funds. As well, they must be admissible to Canada and must be willing to reside outside of Quebec. While having a job offer and provincial nomination will positively affect a candidate’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, they are not required to enter the pool.

Why Choose Express Entry?

The Express Entry system is built on speed, transparency, and flexibility. Most applications are completed within six months of the date when the applicant received an ITA. The Express Entry system is one of the fastest immigration systems in the world. Since it does not require employer sponsorship, the applicant does not have to remain tied to an employer, thus gaining the freedom to choose where to live and work in Canada.

The system is built on a scoring system, which is objective and calculable, and thus the candidate is able to track their CRS score, and take measurable steps to improve it. The Express Entry system's integration with the Provincial Nominee Programs is one of the system's many benefits, as with a nomination, the candidate is virtually guaranteed to receive an invitation to apply.

Express Entry is designed to include families as well. All permanent residency benefits apply to the applicant's spouse, common-law partner, and dependent children.

How the Express Entry Process Works

The process for Express Entry begins with a full review of the candidate's credentials and possible eligibility for one of the federal programs. We assist you in obtaining your ECA from WES, ICAS, or one of the other recognized organizations for candidates who completed their education outside of Canada. We then assist you in preparing for one of the approved language tests, which include the IELTS, CELPIP, and TEF Canada.

When all the necessary requirements are satisfied, we proceed with the creation and submission of your Express Entry profile, paying close attention to detail and strategic presentation. In this step, we also quantify various ways to increase your CRS score, including redoing the language tests, utilizing spousal points, and provincial nomination routes.

If your CRS score is eligible to receive an ITA, you will be required to submit a full permanent residence application within a period of 60 days. This application phase will require comprehensive and detailed identification documentation that may include, but is not limited to, identity documents, employment reference letters, proof of settlement funds, and documents relating to an individual’s medical and police clearances. Our firm facilitates the entire post-ITA process with the assurance that all requirements are met with the standards established by the IRCC.

Upon the successful completion of all requirements, a COPR will be issued that enables you and your family to complete your move to Canada.

Documents Commonly Required

For all Express Entry applications to be successful, candidates will be required to provide a passport, the results of the language tests, and an ECA report, especially if the candidate has gotten their education from outside Canada. It is also necessary to submit employment reference letters that serve to confirm job duties and experience alongside academic transcripts, proof of settlement funds, and identity documents. In addition, police clearances and results of their medical examinations are also required.

In the case of family applications, marriage certificates, birth certificates, and, if necessary, custody documents will also need to be included. For provincial nominees, a nomination certificate is also required. At Phoenix Immigration, we provide you with a custom document checklist based on your individual situation so that each document you submit meets all requirements in terms of formatting, translation, and submission.

Express Entry Timeline Overview

Most applicants take one to three months to complete their ECA and other language testing before they enter the Express Entry pool. After you enter the pool, the length of time it takes to get an ITA is determined by your CRS score and the schedule of the IRCC draws. After you receive your ITA, you have 60 days to submit your complete application. The IRCC tries to issue the majority of complete applications within a six-month time frame.

After you receive your IRCC approval, you receive your COPR and you become a permanent resident of Canada.
